The film “Comic Sans” (2018) Comic Sans is one of the most popular fonts in unofficial e-mail communication, also known to non-designers, and “Comic Sans” directed by Nevio Marasović is certainly one of the most popular Croatian films in recent years. After its triumph at the Pula Film Festival in 2018 (five Golden Arenas, including direction, leading male & supporting female roles plus the people’s choice award, which filmmakers always hold especially dear) and winning the Film Critics Jury Award for the best regional film at the Belgrade FEST, it participated in about twenty other film festivals around the world, and brought home several awards for best film and best male role. Be sure to watch this special film story about a successful designer who has a breakdown thanks to his cheating girlfriend and decides to escape to an island where his family is originally from. The magical island is Vis and we were there, as well as in Zagreb, where the rest of the film was made. The opportunity to participate in this great project by providing props and assembling sets was provided to us by Kinorama. We dearly remember that Easter on Vis with the great production team, as well as those couple of scenes that were filmed on the extraordinary island of Palagruža 😊.

Cold War

Usluge: Poljski film u kojem smo samo jednim dijelom sudjelovali na projektu (naime film je sniman na više lokacija a kod nas se snimao u Splitu i za potrebe tog snimanja Split je trebalo vratiti u cca 1956 g.)

‘Cold War’, ‘Zimna Wojna’, or simply ‘Hladni rat’ evokes warm memories within Druga perspektiva’s team. We are very proud of our participation in this Polish-French-British co-production, an excellent love film noir movie by Oscar-winning Pawel Pawlikowski (great and fatal love stories against gloomy political backdrop are always magical to viewers). In 2018 ‘Cold War’ won 5 European Film and the Cannes film award in the category of the Best Director… According to iMDB, in total it won 46 awards and 117 nominations (including three Oscar nominations). The movie is set in 1950s in Poland, Berlin, Paris, and… Split. Thanks to Kinorama that covered the Croatian part of production, our task was to turn the 2018 Split train station and Riva into their 1956 counterparts. This is why we stated we have a know-how with time machines 😊. Kiosk at Riva – we built a metal construction with ‘stone structure’ and no one could tell it’s not a real one 😊. The Split train station from 1956? No problem! We rented a train, thoroughly investigated the way everything looked back then (down to stickers), drew and wrote everything, printed and gave it a new appearance. Sorry, old appearance 😊.

‘Ko te šiša’ TV series (2017 – 2020)

Druga perspektiva collaborated with Studio Fokus by doing its work on a popular comedy TV series ‘Ko te šiša’ (‘Who cares about your hairs’) aired by the HRT (Croatian National Television). The script and production enabled us a phenomenally wide field in which we were able to show our skills and abilities. We built an entire studio (small town square, two hairdressing parlors and a coffee shop) at Katran, and we also set the entire studio down to a T according to instructions by set designer Miro Gavez. The two parlors were decorated completely differently (the one is kind of retro, and the other one striving to be trendy), and that gave our showroom potential to express its available props range, from old barber chairs in ‘Žigmund’ to an attractive modern purple set found in the ‘Unisex Goddess’.
Our prop masters’ watchful eye was upon all 5 seasons of the series, preparing props for each scene and watching if everything necessary was present, as well as looking out for an unwanted ‘telltale’ detail 😊. We are extremely satisfied and proud with how we cut and formed our part in ‘Ko te šiša’.

‘Na granici’ (‘The Border’) TV series (2018 – 2019)

We worked on several big TV series for Nova TV (‘Larin izbor’ (‘Lara’s Choice’), “Kud puklo da puklo” (‘Whichever Way the Ball Bounces’), ‘Drugo ime ljubavi’ (‘Another Name For Love’)), bot in a way, we keep ‘Na Granici’ in fond memory. Supervized by set designer Branimira Katić, our prop masters (two teams, for studio at Velesajam and locations) did a heroic job.
Lika, Herzegovina, the border… Tobacco smuggling, along with who knows what else… The entire series plot revolves around that smuggling, and the smuggler bags and boxes were filled by our prop masters (also taking care of other hero props), while the ‘smuggled’ goods were acquired by our prop buyers 😊! The guys were also in charge of redressing – quickly changing a room on a set into another, and our prop stock contributed with the entire fire extinguishing equipment for VFD Lokvica, as well as the border pass ramp! The store in Herzegovina was designed exclusively by our graphic designer – all the articles were her handicraft. Another proof we were hard at work is that our delivery van was not spared after delivering the props, it also played the part of – a smuggler’s van 😊.

New Year’s Special @ Nova TV

New Year’s Special @ Nova TV (2017, 2018, 2019) It’s not a series, although after so many years in a row, it sure seems that way. 😊 But it certainly was another serial, successful collaboration with Nova TV that is still very dear to us. The well-known New Year’s Eve program on Nova TV is a combination of the legendary series “Nad lipom 35” and other familiar faces of Nova TV, such as the band, current prime time characters and Croatian music stars.
For us at Druga perspektiva, the first challenge was to make the space stand out and to put an emphasis on variety, along with our classic service package – building and furnishing the studio, acquiring props and having our prop masters on set. Our showroom had the chance to fully shine again, with its bar props and party decorations, while our prop masters made sure everything went smoothly – that the snack trays were always full, balloons were always bouncing around, the frames never ran short of confetti and that no one’s glass was ever empty. 😊

Startaj Hrvatska TV show

Startaj Hrvatska TV show (2020) We were especially pleased to participate in the TV show series “Startaj Hrvatska” (“Croatia, go!”), which had a great idea to present small entrepreneurs who stood out with a very special product or line of products. Nova TV and SPAR Hrvatska had united on this project and the audience enjoyed it. We also enjoyed giving our contribution to such a well-designed show with a positive focus. Our tasks were building and setting up studios in Zagreb, renting props, going to Spar locations and arranging scenes for filming and finally visiting the homes or production locations of the candidates who were competing to win the Hit Product of 2020 title. Considering that the innovative startups were from different parts of Croatia, we went to visit them together with the camera crew, in order to better highlight their products. We visited the vicinity of Zagreb, Karlovac, Slavonia, Dalmatia… At the locations we set up sets, borrowed and procured props, and our prop masters on the sets took care of everything down to the smallest detail, such as making sure that the labels on product jars were ok or that even the smallest petals on bouquets in the background were in their place. 😊

National Geographic TVCs

National Geographic TVCs (2013) Getting to do such an interesting job like ours is a joy in itself. Getting to participate in series, movies, videos, events etc., while later enjoying watching the scenes and landscapes we set up in front of the screen is a true pleasure. And of course we like every project, but when the client is National Geographic, then the story holds special weight – in a positive sense. 😊 4ART, the production team for Croatia, hired us to prepare sets and props for three National Geographic TV commercials, for the then hit reality shows on that channel – “Doomsday Preppers” (about characters preparing to survive the end of the world), “Monster Fish” (about a biologist who devises ways to catch some of the biggest fish in exotic destinations) and “Ultimate Survival Alaska” (where candidates compete in various races in the not-so-friendly Alaskan environment). This is one of the strongest examples of our statement that we make the impossible possible – for the purposes of these videos we built parts of an atomic shelter and equipped it to welcome the end of the world, depicted a crash site and recreated a scene where snow and ice are the ultimate rulers.

‘My Way’ virtual event (2020) ‘My Way’ is a floral perfume for women (open-minded, independent, read for new experiences 😊) from the genius Armani’s perfume creative workshop. Since ‘My Way’ was released during the infamous 2020, the year in which the world was forced to restrain from living the life we all grew accustomed to, everything was to be reinvented, so was true for promotions.
L’Oréal Adria decided to create a virtual event, a mini press conference by their Marketing Department about ‘My Way’. We are proud to state that they hired us for the job. We won’t be revealing the notes of the irresistible ‘My Way’, but we will tell you that our base note was to design a studio in which the conversation was shot in a special pink hue of the perfume, our middle note was building the studio, and the upper note, or ‘glanz’ – decoration using our props. We’ll paraphrase Sinatra – We did it our way 😊.
Everything was done very quickly and we would really like to note that equally quickly we can also build or organize shooting spaces according to your wishes, virtual event spaces, conference calls, anything that quickly requires leaving an (different, better, more unique, elegant, cool, creative…) impression 😊.
